BAE Systems Submarine Solutions choose Sonovation Technology

Sonovation are pleased to announce, that BAE Systems Submarine Solutions have contracted Sonovation to provide them with technology to examine the complex geometries (Nozzles) encountered on submarine construction.

BAE Systems, based at Barrow-in-Furness, have long recognised the economic value of Tofd replacing Radiography in these their construction programs, and have now chosen to update their existing equipment to this state of the art technology from Sonovation.

These actions are as a result of validation work carried out by the Ministry of Defence (PE) after extensive trials on realistic welds with known implanted defects. Sonovation applied their unique ScanPlan software to formulate all procedural aspects of the various weld profiles encountered and scanned the specimen in a controlled exercise managed by Qinetiq at their Rosyth facility.

The results of this exercise demonstrated the efficiency and accuracy of the Sonovation procedures, equipment and staff and allowed BAE Systems to replace radiography during submarine build demonstrating their commitment to applying modern, cost effective methods to submarine construction.

The contract with BAE Systems Submarine Solutions includes, supply of the Sonovision system, ancillary scanning and transducer equipment, ScanPlan software and training.
